Madness 3D – D9K Sponsor Highlight
We are very lucky to have Madness 3D aboard as a sponsor for D9K this year. He is involved in preparing a nice surprise for all our players. Here follows a short interview with the owner Van Zyl.
Please tell us briefly about your background.
My name is Van Zyl and I am the owner of Madness3d. I was born in Pretoria, but mostly grew up in the northern suburbs of Cape Town.
I have a background in supply chain analysis and logistics.
What does your company specialise in?
We do the most awesome miniatures by some of the best sculptors from around the world in high quality resin.
What is the origin story of your company?
Madness3d was founded in November 2020 in the middle of the covid pandemic through boredom and maybe a little madness. By playing around a bit with printing and having a close look at the miniature offering at the time, we saw that there was a need for a variety of good quality miniatures and Madness3d was found.

Do you play any games? Which are your favourites and why?
I used to be a good DotA player, but old age has rendered me useless. I now enjoy rpg’s – both on tabletop and pc.
If you weren’t working at your company, what would you be doing?
Cursing at broken down trucks.
What would you like to achieve with your company?
Bring the miniature painting hobby to as much of South Africa as possible.
Which achievement of your company are you proudest of to date?
Our second painting competition just ended and it was a massive success. The amount of interest by new painters have been truly heart-warming.

What technologies are you currently most excited about, and most worried about? And why?
I am mostly excited by new dlp technology printers becoming affordable for even the public to have one at home. What worries me most is the improvement of the quality of casting out there.
Why did you agree to work with the District 9000 event?
Why not? It sounds like a passionate group of gamers.
What advice would you give to the 21-year-old version of yourself?
Finish your studies!
Are you planning on joining any conventions or events where people can come and meet you?
Yes, District 9000’s Infinity event and Comic Con Africa.

Where can we see your work and products?
You can also find some of our goods at The Warren / Pandemonium Games / Unseen Shoppe / Durbanville Games / Nexus Hub.
How should people get in touch with you?
Email or whatsapp – info[at]madness3d.co.za or +27 8two 601 8853
Any final thoughts?
Keep growing the hobbies!
Big thanks from our Infinity community Van Zyl. Looking forward to meeting you in person at the event.
